New Traditions

As frequently happens,  the lunar new year kind of sneaked up on me.  In past years, we'd made a tradition of heading up to Seattle and spending the day celebrating Tet, Vietnamese New Year.

Now we have two different cultures in our family that both celebrate the lunar new year.  What's a mama to do?  Well, fortunately for me, we're a part of a chapter of Families with Children from Asia and they organize an event that combines the celebrations.

As this was the first of their events we've attended, we were excited to find out that good friends of ours would also be attending.  We met at a local Chinese restaurant with 17 other families, all with extremely adorable kiddos.  What a great time meeting new people and celebrating the Year of the Rabbit (China)/Cat (Vietnam).  Pics to enjoy:

XYZ & a good friend enjoying their noodles.

My kiddos would, unfortunately, have nothing to do with the costumes.

Passing the time with XYZ's stash of toys.

My handsome big guy!

Group shot of most of the kiddos.  I couldn't get XYZ to step forward, but you can see her peeking out from a bit in front of JX.

Her fingers are too little to actually get stuck in the finger trap.

Family shot.  This pic was very overexposed, so I Photoshopped it the best I could.

My beautiful friend, Cheryl, and her daughter (who wanted nothing to do with this picture.)
